This Learning Project will introduce students to the concept of hydrodynamic modelling and to the concepts of computer modelling as a visualization tool for understanding. The student(s) will select a computer modelling tool and use it to create a visualization of the impact of sea level rise on an area of coastline they are interested in.

Goals[edit | edit source]

In this learning project we aim to capture a section of coastline in a 3D model, apply hydrodynamic computational methods to that model and produce a visualization of what the impacts of sea level rise would look like.

  • OpenTELEMAC [1] - A 3D hydrodynamics module, TELEMAC-3D, uses the same horizontally unstructured mesh as TELEMAC-2D but solves the Navier-Stokes equations.
  • Delft3D [2] - One of the most comprehensive 1D, 2D and 3D hydrodynamic modelling suites available, Delft3D has become open source.

Learning materials and learning projects are located in the main Wikiversity namespace (i.e. without any prefix such as 'Topic:' or 'School:').
