Part 1 - CARP Description[edit | edit source]

What a load of CARP!

A carp is generally considered to be a "rough" fish that is undesirable for fishing or eating.

However, there is a colorful variety of carp known as Koi, which is very ornamental. These fish are often used in decorative ponds and aquariums. Koi are more aligned with how the CARP model applies to instructional design, by visually enhancing the environment. In this context, CARP is actually a good thing!

CARP is an acronym for design principles that you can use for improving the visual appeal and effectiveness of your training material.
