Introduction[edit | edit source]

There are two main camps of creation theory; old-earth creationists, and young-earth creationists. Old-earth creationists assert that the six days of creation mentioned in the first chapter of Genesis were not literal days, but rather long periods of time (spanning anywhere from millions to billions of years). Young-earth creationists assert that the earth is approximately 6,000 years old, and that the word "day" (יוֹם in the original Hebrew, pronounced yôm) is literal. The 7 day week is said to have derived from this.
