Removing Copyright Material[edit source]

This page has been removed. The author has decided that the material is copyright and should no longer appear on Wikiversity.

New Page Concept[edit source]

Based on some of the comments expressed a new page has been created. The new page offers basic instruction on painting technique and should be more suitable for a Wikiversity article. Added by User:70.54.11.26 (probably the artist/author)

  • Expanding on the above comment, an anonymous user, probably the artist, has responded to the deletion proposal by beginning to turn this resource into a "how to" for acrylic painting. This is now becoming a real educational resource. However it should still not be used as a vehicle for self-promotion, so I'm changing the page title and removing (most) vanity links and references. I'll also close the proposal for deletion. To the artist: well done and thank you. If you can continue to enhance the educational value of this resource, I'm sure we'll have no problem with allowing a reasonable increase in the number of credits to yourself - but please focus on ensuring that educational content far outweighs self-promotion. Thanks! --McCormack 04:36, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To the artist - where to put the biographical information[edit source]

Thanks for putting some educational content here. I have the following suggestions. (1) Create a user account (or do you already have one?). (2) Fish out your biographical material from the page history and put it on your user page instead. (3) If you want people to visit your user page, then create plenty of educational materials related to art. --McCormack 04:44, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More ideas for developing this page[edit source]

Some ideas which occurred to me... (1) This project could use some pictorial material (it's an art project, after all), but rather than posting external links to finished painting, how about taking a project you're currently working on and taking a series of photos which show how you do it. Then post those images here (i.e. upload and display inline) with comments. (See also Help:subpages). (2) Think about audience participation. Perhaps once you have a series of photos showing how you do it, you could encourage visitors to do the same and post their "portfolios" of stages in the development of a single painting they tried to make? (3) If you don't do either of the above, you could nevertheless use my suggestions to get a feel for creating your own development ideas. --McCormack 05:18, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

regarding the upload of the picture[edit source]

Cross wiki spam?[edit source]

Please note that this article has been created on many projects by what seems to be the artist herself. It has been nominated for deletion at nlwiki and simplewiki. --Erwin 15:48, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It seems ridiculous that you would all go to so much trouble to remove an article from Wikiversity about a simple artist who has painted 1150 paintings (all in collection) or so over the course of their career, has had paintings in prominent collections such as Canada Mortgage and Housing ( 48 x 96 in. ), past Prime Minister's of Canada and work featured on UNICEF cards, Children's Wish Foundation of Canada cards, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (Cards for the Cure), Cornerstone 52 Foundation greeting cards, Canada Save the Children cards and others all of which benefit mankind greatly, especially children. Shame on all of you! (The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.54.11.61 (talkcontribs) )

It seems ridiculous that someone would come to Wikiversity and post an article here that has nothing to do with the goals, mission, or otherwise general purpose of Wikiversity! Wikiversity is not an encyclopedia, but a collection of learning resources/projects/etc. How is this page educational? Shame on that person for putting something here without first learning what Wikiversity is! (My use of "shame on that person" is intended to be a rhetorical application of your own language, and is not meant to offend. If said person actually is interested in contributing to Wikiversity, they're more than welcome to find constructive ways to do so.) The Jade Knight 12:32, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How is this page educational? Does it teach? One might ask the same question of paintings hanging in the National Gallery of Canada. Do they instruct are they educational, what are their purpose, why does society value their creation, why were they selected? Do they inspire? If they do inspire, what is achieved by that inspiration. Could it be an enrichment of some sort for the viewer? What if we had no art or music of any kind in our society, do you think we would be better off? What are your goals and missions at Wikiversity?

request[edit source]

To all editors of this page: welcome to Wikiversity. Please discuss this page from the perspective of Wikiversity. Is the page a useful learning resource? It really does not matter if the content has been deleted from other wikis. --JWSchmidt 03:56, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of deletion tag[edit source]

JWSchmidt removed the speedy delete tag citing "no reason given for page deletion". I was surprised to read this talk page and find that there was a reason. --McCormack 04:26, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There was no reason given in the template. --JWSchmidt 04:31, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually that is not true. To quote the reason in the template below.
