Android Studio is now the official Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for Google's Android operating system. Android studio is based on IntelliJ IDEA (Community Edition) by Jetbrains, and is often utilized to program apps for Android. Android Studio was released in May 2013. Google promised that Android development would be simpler with Android Studio. The jury is still out on this one. The Eclipse diehards swear by their favorite IDE. Can they bear to let go?
