Wikiversity:Candidates for Custodianship/Sidelight12
Sidelight12 (talk • email • contribs • stats • logs • global account)
[edit source]Hi. I want to import pages, and edit histories from other wikis, that are written as guides. In the case where an article was copied and pasted with no further effort to that page, and it is not practical to be fixed, I intend to bring it to attention by clearing the page. I want to be useful to other editors who want to import pages, and to improve Wikiversity. I do an organized job and plan to of keeping account that page histories and information gets kept. Thanks. Done This starts the 4 week period of probationary custodianship. My apologies for the lengthy delay. I was hoping another bureaucrat would activate as I have nominated and offered to mentor (I would generally prefer someone else to add the custodian rights), but we clearly need more active custodians. Questions
[edit source]Hi Sidelight12, thanks for your useful work already on en.wv (over 750 edits). I think those edits indicate already a good knowledge of Wikiversity admin and MediaWiki, with a growing understanding and participation in the en.wv community, so I am confident that you would make good use of import, delete etc. Could you tell us a bit more about what sorts of material and from where you are thinking of importing - e.g., perhaps there are some categories? Sincerely, James -- Jtneill - Talk - c 00:52, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- There were horticulture articles, that I wanted to bring over. For instance w:houseplant care to 'indoor plant lighting requirements'; histories or materials for grafting and plant propagation, for instance w:willow Water. Something from w:tree shaping and w:pruning to be linked to from the bonsai article. Article content I would like to import is with math, science, environmental, human development and small scale building projects/activities. There are articles already pasted over, that lack the edit history, if these are practical to Wikiversity with consideration of if enough effort was made to document that it was copied over, I plan to bring the histories over. Articles with little how-to substance are better rewritten, than being imported, in my opinion. I will refuse to bring over distasteful or potentially harmful materials. If necessary, I plan to document on the talk pages, so future authors would have an easier time editing and keeping track. If an editor makes a request, I will have to leave it to them that the information is accurate, especially of a subject that I have little knowledge of. Custodians willing to mentor
[edit source]Hi Sidelight12, I am willing to mentor. Sincerely, James -- Jtneill - Talk - c 22:21, 21 December 2012 (UTC)
- I'm still interested. I accept. Thanks. - Sidelight12 Talk 05:34, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- I'm still up for it. Someone needs to update the language links on the main page. - Sidelight12 Talk 17:19, 6 August 2013 (UTC)
Mentor's recommendation
[edit source]Sidelight12 has been a probationary custodian for 13 months. Yesterday Sidelight12 was emergency desysopped by Snowolf from meta for wheel-warring use of block/unblock. Due to the lack of consultation and discussion initiated by Sidelight12 (e.g., to seek mentor and/or community guidance) around the use of the block/unblock tool, I am not currently willing to reinstate admin rights (as a bureaucrat) or recommend Sidelight12 for full mentorship (as a mentor). -- Jtneill - Talk - c 10:10, 17 October 2014 (UTC)
