University of Canberra/SAFFIRE/Projects/Mobile hole in the wall

From Wikiversity
Mobile hole in the wall
This is a proposed SAFFIRE project. Please edit to improve.

Enable every UC community member with "personal mobile holes in the wall" - i.e., mobile devices (smartphone/tablet) with wifi internet access and access to UC resources and learning opportunities.

Rationale

[edit | edit source]

Flexibility, innovation, and engagement could be significantly enhanced at UC by improving accessibility of access to key UC functions (e.g., enrolling, timetabling, events, unit and course info and content). As Sugata Mitra has found (see Hole in the Wall,[1] ) simply providing people with better access to computers and the internet increases learning without a formal teacher even being appointed.

What is needed?

[edit | edit source]

The project needs are:

  1. Mobile device access - a project which aims to facilitate access by all staff and students to engagement with UC teaching and learning via mobile devices (e.g., University of Western Sydney begin issuing new students with an IPAD in 2013)
  2. Mobile-enabled content - all UC and amdin learning content needs to be mobile-friendly and device-agnostic.
