Progress?

[edit source]

So it's now past the deadline for the project, and what do we have so far? EAS 07:42, 23 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

It's really saddening to see it, but it seems this project has been abandoned. Perhaps we should add a note stating that the project is currently inactive on the main page so nobody gets confused? Habstinat (talk) 01:27, 29 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

3DTheatre.org

[edit source]

Have people on this project seen the 3DTheater.org project? --Rayc 15:13, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikinews

[edit source]
screenshot from wikinews thingy

I have no idea if this is useful or not, but you may be intreasted in the attempts in the past to make video news programs for wikinews (they havn't really been succesful because the main contributors doing them have left Wikinews). An idea

[edit source]

Let's aim for a 30 second synopsis of the project to date. A good idea? --HappyCamper 03:19, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Do you mean something like this? Short projects could be done at Wikiversity shorts. --JWSchmidt 03:26, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Not really...that link doesn't seem to be reflective of what I had in mind...Hard to qualify though. --HappyCamper 21:40, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mascot

[edit source]

Can we make a cute mascot for the Wikiversity movie? And say, have it visit different sorts of pages as a way to teach others about the Wiki software and what this project is all about? --HappyCamper 22:38, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm trying to imagine a cute mascot named "Wiklar". --JWSchmidt 23:46, 26 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

An example

[edit source]

Here is an example project on how a group of people that don't know each other come together to make a movie [1]. Maybe we should deside on people we need and then start a voice actor auditions?--Rayc 23:50, 23 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm thinking we could have a rather fact-oriented history of the project including video of Jimbo's talks where he did his "free the curriculum" and the announcement of the project lunch this past summer. I think it would be good to split the facts up with some more entertaining short features. Voice auditions are good. GarageBand has some filters that make your voice sound better than usual. --JWSchmidt 02:36, 24 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
Count me in for the voices. If you want to hear how my voice sounds look here, ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 18:29, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Propose Name be "Wikiversity: Education in the New Millennium".

[edit source]

Capitalizing "New Millennium" seems to this participant to give a more compelling appearance to the proposed title. -- Dionysios (talk), Date: 2007-03-12 (March 12, 2007) Time: 2027 UTC

I wonder when a millennium stops being "new". --JWSchmidt 15:55, 10 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Not a bad idea, but as JWSchmidt said, millenium is kinda too late. How bout something like "Wikiversity: Education for the next generation", or something like that. EAS 07:43, 23 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

How long?

[edit source]

Are we talking about a 2 minute, 30 minute, 2 hour video? I think it would be wise to start with a teaser no? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.240.196.9 (talkcontribs) 07:38, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Short sounds good for begin. We can also use this to win participants for the learning project itself, ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 18:31, 21 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
This is the key first question for me - along with what the video will be used for. I'd suggest 5-10 mins for the video - after that it would take considerable commitment from anyone to actually watch it - which rather defeats one of the main purposes as I understand it: promote Wikiversity to a newcomer audience. Cormaggio talk 21:46, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Only one movie ?

[edit source]

I am wondering, it is not told anywhere explicitly, but should we create several videos ? Because everybody sees Wikiversity different - we could reflect that in the diversity. Though then we might split our available contributors and things could take longer. Also perhaps it would result in less collaborative work (perhaps not, if many join) ? What do you think ? ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 17:29, 23 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Different videos are always an option - but first, there needs to be some sort of concrete idea for one video that other videos can then differentiate themselves from. Unless you propose to work in separate semi-autonomous groups from the beginning? Btw, that's not necessarily a bad thing - and there is always the openness to collaboration in the form of feedback/critique... Cormaggio talk 21:53, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
How about an "MTV format" where the format is one or more Video DJs introducing however many one to three minute shorts are created? We can even include commercials that are a pitch for a donation to WikiMedia. WAS 4.250 20:31, 31 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

A motivational slogan: "Coming soon to a wiki theater near you !"

[edit source]

What do you think about a slogan which motivates people to join this learning project ? This is not a slogan for the final movie, it is a try to get to infect people with this sentence - so they hopefully participate. Other ideas for such motivational slogans ? ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 17:14, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I was thinking

[edit source]

I have this animating software called Endorphin. Would it help anyone if I created an animation of people in a school for one shot of this movie? Straight Edge PXK 15:01, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
