I have a question. Sisipherr (discusscontribs) 19:27, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations on having a question. While you might find the answer without asking it, it usually doesn't work that way .... feel free to ask, and you might even get an answer! --Abd (discusscontribs) 15:16, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Oops. I was showing my students what to do if they had a question, and I kind of left the thought hanging :) Sisipherr (discusscontribs) 03:54, 2 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

File:Local 506.jpg licensing considerations

[edit source]

This image has been deleted once on Commons. The replacement has a deletion tag on it, and will be deleted if Commons procedures for licensing are not satisfied. Repeated uploads on commons can cause problems there.

You may upload files to Wikiversity directly. We have the same licensing requirements, but we also allow Fair Use for files, which may take some discussion. It is best if proper licensing is provided, but that can be complicated. Ask me for assistance on my user page if you find problems. Good luck, Tar Heels. --Abd (discusscontribs) 17:51, 14 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

This is an amazing resource, which I expect could be useful to generations of UNC students and others. I'd like to point out that you can create subpages of this to explore any particular topic in detail. For example, if someone is interested in the Order of Gimghoul, a page could be created University of North Carolina/Tour Heels/Gimghoul. This would be linked on the resource page with a subpage link, i.e., with

/Gimghoul

or

/Gimghoul/

(The difference is that the slash displays with the first, making it clear that this is a subpage, whereas with the second, it looks like any wikilink. /Gimghoul or Gimghoul

The reason for using subpage links is that we might later move all the pages on specific universities or schools to be subpages of a School resource, and subpage links stay good, whereas explicit page links must be edited (unless a redirect is in place).

One more suggestion: when I read about Gimghoul on the resource page, I thought it might be a hoax. But I googled it, and found that there is a Wikipedia article. English Wikipedia articles can be linked with, in this case:

w:Order of Gimghoul

that will display the w: interwiki indicator. To suppress that, it would be:

w:Order of Gimghoul

which will automatically expand when saved to

Order of Gimghoul

or you can display whatever text you want after the pipe. Order of Gimghoul

Unlike Wikipedia, original research and opinion are allowed on Wikiversity. We still have a neutrality policy, but we balance rather than delete. Again, welcome to Wikiversity, all of you. --Abd (discusscontribs) 14:48, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the recommendations! Gimghoul is both very real and very creepy, so we'll make sure we've got it cited. We only have a week left in our Wiki editing unit, so hopefully we'll smooth out the rough patches on this page and be able to leave the community with something they can productively build upon. Wikiversity is for educational materials and "learning by doing." As you know, this kind of resource would be impossible on Wikipedia. There are possible "issues" with what has been written, but so what? Here is what I see: you have a community at UNC Chapel Hill that is enjoying life, and this resource expresses what a great place it is. I already knew that, my ex-wife and I actually bought into a cohousing community in Chapel Hill, maybe eight years ago, because Chapel Hill was such a great place, but we ended up staying in the Pioneer Valley, Northampton, Massachusetts instead. Also a great place.... We will handle any issues with the resource, we have ways of managing neutrality that are very different from Wikipedia. (Ultimately, opinion will be attributed, only consensus remains anonymous.)
Pit Preacher Bingo, that's spectacular! Led me to Google "pit preacher bingo," there are other examples. If we had limitless time -- do we? hmmm.... question for research ... we could look at the relationship between theology and what preachers actually say. Regardless, this resource looks like you are applying Rule No. 1 of education: Have fun!
Now, suggested small task. There is a template that can be added to the Wikipedia article, on w:University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, w:Template:Wikiversity I would suggest placing
University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill
on that page, under External Links. Yes, I'm going to move this resource, because it's campus-specific. --Abd (discusscontribs) 14:42, 2 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
