Listing characters[edit source]

I think that listing and organizing characters (something already begun here) has a lot of potential. What I'd like to see is analysis, not just summary of what is in the book. So, can you think of some ways to organize the characters? In ways that have to do with storytelling features, not with the content of the plot? What makes a character a major character? I.e., what features do they have, how does the storyteller create them to be a major character? Is is giving us access to their thoughts? Is it making them storytellers themselves? What about minor characters? What happens when a character appears on stage for a short while? Do we see what they look like or know what they are thinking? Does Homer use epithets (short, descriptive titles or nicknames that accompany someone's name) for minor characters? There are other ways to divide up the characters too. Once you do that, you might then (and only then!) consider how different character types relate to the story. Some are seen throughout the entire epic, but some are limited to smaller portions.

Feel free to contribute to this page in other ways, and not just in what I suggested above... -Joey Cross (discusscontribs) 14:22, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Giving more examples and description[edit source]

I like the different categories that have taken shape here! This is a good analytic approach. Some of the character types & features are given examples, but some don't. Make sure you have good examples, and try to explain in a bit of detail exactly what you are talking about with the example. -Joey Cross (discusscontribs) 13:44, 1 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
