When we talk about culture, we should also remember that all cultures have systems of health beliefs (as we heard in our previous lectures). These systems of belief help explain what the causes of illness could be but also how best to treat them and by whom.

Patients would only want to receive advice from a health professional if they see any relevance for themselves - particularly cultural relevance. For e.g. a SA going considering all dieticians to NOT being bale to deliver or give advice on their traditional foods and lifestyle. "They wouldn't know."
