Linguistics Resources[edit source]

@Dr. Coal: I did a study several years ago on the use of templates such as {{Linguistics resources}}. It turns out that they have an inverse relationship in encouraging viewership. The more links like this a page has, the less likely users are to follow them. Rather than using this template, it would be better to use a standard See Also section and add specific links you would recommend, probably no more than seven. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 16:33, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dave Braunschweig, thank you very much for the notification. To be honest, I was not sure adding the template in the first place, because the topic is more likely related to educational sciences. I may have regarded the perspective of language acquisition, which would be directly linked to linguistics. I also want to express my intention to reorganise the template since it seems quite crowded and complex - which is totally inconvenient for the teaching purpose. Removing from the resource now. @Dr. Coal: I'd recommend creating your own template if you think one is necessary. There are dozens of templates like the one you added and they are only used by one user who is now blocked for a year. Everyone else has recognized that link-spamming like this (and with intense color choices) isn't effective. If you think something like this really would be helpful, try to emulate one of the Wikipedia navigation bars instead. That has much wider acceptance as a format. Thanks! -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 00:23, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Dave Braunschweig, I'm sorry since I haven't replied earlier. (I didn't see any notification about your mention and saw your reply by chance.) Building a new template surely would be easier than renovating a present one. I also agree that the templates should only involve core elements which seem necessary and important - with a basic design that does not make anyone's eyes bleeding. Thank you very much for your guidance and regards. Dr. Coal (discusscontribs) 08:19, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Surely the topic of "language teaching" ought to include its most frequent exemplars, namely the teaching of both regional official languages (often a formal dialect of a person's first language) and of foreign languages?
  • And wouldn't relating "language teaching" to "linguistics", "language learning", "language acquisition" (and maybe "psycholinguistics") help put the topic in context?
