[edit | edit source]

At the Duchess of Devonshire's fancy-dress ball, Lady Hilda Southampton (at 402) was dressed as Beatrice:

  • "Lady Southampton's 'Beatrice' was carried out in daffodil satin and silver cloth."[5]:p. 6, Col. 1a [6]:p. 6, Col. 1a

Lafayette's portrait of "Hilda Mary (née Dundas), Lady Southampton as Beatrice" in costume is photogravure #149 in the album presented to the Duchess of Devonshire and now in the National Portrait Gallery.[7] The printing on the portrait says, "Lady Southampton as Beatrice."[8]

Charles Henry FitzRoy, Baron Southampton (at 569) also attended.
