• "The Countess d'Artois, represented ... by Lady Bingham, wore a long pointed bodice and train of ruby velvet; the bodice trimmed with soft muslin and point d'Alençon; the train outlined with ermine tail, and lined throughout with cloth of gold, the full petticoat made of ivory satin. A velvet cap had a thick rope of soft muslin threaded with pearls all round it, one end falling on the shoulder, and on the left side was a plume of white ostrich feathers, and a gold aigrette fastened with diamonds."

Notes and Questions

1. George Bingham, 3rd Earl of Lucan gave James, Lord Cadogan the order to lead the Charge of the Light Brigade; he was promoted to Field Marshall after it. He was "a ruthless landlord during the Great Famine in Ireland" and was called "The Exterminator." He "came up with a solution that allowed Jews to sit in Parliament," allowing the houses to change the oath so that the elected member of the House of Commons was not required to swear as a Christian, which permitted Nathaniel Rothschild to be sworn in.
