At the Duchess of Devonshire's fancy-dress ball, Mr. Foley (at 690) was dressed as a "Hussar of the Napoleonic era ..., with rich gold trimming on jacket, pelisse, and pants."[7]:36, Col. 3b

Notes and Questions[edit | edit source]

  1. There is no evidence right now of who the Mr. Foley who attended the ball was. It seems possible he was from this family, and members of it were present at other social events at this time, especially General Hon. Sir St. George Gerald Foley and his wife and Lord and Lady Foley, probably Henry Foley, 5th Baron Foley? Henry St. George Foley had good social connections, but at this point there is no way to tell. Sir St. George Foley and Thomas Henry Foley, 4th Baron Foley of Kidderminster were brothers, so Henry Thomas Foley, 5th Baron and FitzAlan Charles John Foley, 6th Baron, as sons of Thomas Foley, 4th Baron, were cousins of Henry St. George Foley and Cyril Pelham Foley. Of all the sons in this extended family, Henry St. George Foley seems to have had the best social connections because of his role in the Foreign Secretary's office.
  2. Lt.-Col. Cyril Pelham Foley does not seem to have married.[6]
