[edit | edit source]At the Duchess of Devonshire's fancy-dress ball, Major-General Ellis (at 654) was present in attendance on Prince Charles of Denmark (at 144) and Princess Maud of Wales (Princess Charles of Denmark) (at 159). "General Ellis" was dressed as an "Elizabethan noble," wearing "dark mauve satin doublet and trunks, slashed and puffed with crimson velvet embroidered with silver; crimson velvet short cloak, embroidered with a darker velvet and lined with mauve satin; gold chain and ornament round neck."[8]:42, Col. 3a
Another of his daughters was present at the ball, Mrs. Mary Evelyn Ellis Sneyd.
