Henry Van der Weyde's portrait of "Sir Donald Mackenzie Wallace as Algernon Sidney" in costume is photogravure #259 in the album presented to the Duchess of Devonshire and now in the National Portrait Gallery. The printing on the portrait says, "Sir Donald Mackenzie Wallace as Algernon Sidney."

Algernon Sidney (1623-1683) was an anti-monarchist at the time of Charles I and Charles II, who had him executed for treason. His analyses of government and corruption continue to be very influential.
