John Charles Montagu Douglas Scott, Earl of Dalkeith (at 459) was also present. They were called Lord and Lady Dalkeith in the newspapers.
Lafayette's portrait of "Margaret Alice Montagu-Douglas-Scott (née Bridgeman), Duchess of Buccleuch when Countess of Dalkeith as Helen, Countess of Dalkeith" in costume is #223 in the album presented to the Duchess of Devonshire and now in the National Portrait Gallery.[5] The printing on the portrait says, "The Countess of Dalkeith as Helen Countess of Dalkeith," with a Long S both times Countess is used.[6]
Who Margaret, Countess of Dalkeith meant by Helen, Countess of Dalkeith is not clear.
