Naval Architecture is an engineering discipline dealing with the design, construction and repair of marine vehicles. Marine vehicles may include ships, which move on the surface of water, submarines which move within water, and air cushion vehicles which move over an air cushion above water. Of these, ships were built and designed from much earler than other types of vehicles, hence most of the theory of Naval Architecture is from the point of view of applicability to the design and construction of ships. These concepts are then extended to other forms of marine vehicles.
