Orthoptic clinical practice/Video Presentation

From Wikiversity
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Your task is to develop a video (no longer than 8-10 minutes) of a clinical assessment of a patient and to make this video available on YouTube. Where possible, it is preferable that the ‘simulated patient’ is not an orthoptic student.

The video should have audio so that the communication between the clinician and patient can be heard and should focus on the performance of the skill (e.g. where a cover test is being performed the camera should be focused on the patient so that the eyes and cover can be seen by the viewer). The use of captions throughout the video to assist with explanations is also encouraged. At the end of the video a recording of the findings should be provided with an interpretation of the results. Where appropriate, you are encouraged to explain other potential clinical results and their interpretation.

Critical Evaluation[edit | edit source]

Each team will present their video for critical evaluation to the class. The presentation (incl. the viewing of the video) should take no more than 15 minutes. The critical evaluation will focus on 3 aspects of the clinical investigation:

  • Communication with the patient
  • Clinical Skill Performance
  • Recording of Results
  • Interpreting of Results

You are encouraged to also provide positive and constructive on the relevant YouTube pages.

Instructions[edit | edit source]

To complete this activity:

  1. Select the video and the team you will work with on LMS. This will be identical to the Wikipedia page you are developing.
  2. Create a YouTube channel for yourself or the team
  3. Once your video is complete, upload your video to your YouTube channel
  4. Link your Wikipedia page to your YouTube video by adding the link to the 'Description' section
  5. Share your YouTube video link with your lecturer who will develop a class playlist
