- A dual strategy:
- Education: To educate the next generation of scholars and researchers about Open Access so open publishing becomes the new norm.
- as the long term mechanism for change
- easy materials
- until now, SPARC has built the materials. That is changing, since some folks are developing their own material. (eg. Medical student organization)
- ex.: guide on OA advocacy for students
- spur member driven creation of material
- provoke cross collaboration – in Budapest
- next meeting of Right to Research Coalition in August – in Budapest
- on demand help
- Advocacy: To advocate for policies at the campus and national level that promote Open Access by requiring that research results be made freely available in a timely manner;
- Short term change
- Get students involved
- Institutional campaign – 12 campuses (US, Europe and Africa) > after identifying students that are motivated > in general with students that were met in international conferences
- Education: To educate the next generation of scholars and researchers about Open Access so open publishing becomes the new norm.
- ARL > SPARC > R2RC
- SPARC – focus on librarians > education outreach + advocacy
- SPACR with > strong focus on open data and OER moving forward
- Right to Research Coalition – focus on students as a “second” catalyst group > new focus on OER
- SPARC – focus on librarians > education outreach + advocacy
- Entering any new region
- Reach out to student organizations
- Get invited to conferences
- Build personal relationships
- TO DO:
- Find student organizations in Brazil, what are the sister organizations – provide contacts, is there funding to bring more people? Identify conferences Nick could attend/speak
