‘Why’ Questions

Studies of motivation are based on the central question:
Why do people initiate, choose or persist in specific actions in certain circumstances?

Everyday Examples of ‘Why’ Questions:
“Why does someone not eat the meal you prepared for them?”

  • Are they not hungry?
  • Do they not like the food?
  • Do they not like you?

“Why does the university student fail their exam?”

  • Does the student lack the ability?
  • Did they not study enough?
  • Were the questions too hard?
