ICT in Education/Change Projects/2016C Cambodia ICT Support for Academic Scheduling
Title of the change project : ICT Support for Academic Scheduling
Change agent : Bonarin Hem
Name of the organization: Pannasastra University of Cambodia (PUC)
Country : Cambodia
Started date : January 31- September, 30, 2017
Status (finished/ongoing) : in Progress
1. Background of the project (problem):
Paññāsāstra University of Cambodia (PUC) is the only higher education institution that provides strictly English-based programs in the country, and English is used as the internal communication means for announcements and meetings. I am currently Associate Dean in charge of Academic Program Office (APO), and one of our main challenging tasks is the academic scheduling. The APO is a central place where in each term we have to create about 500-600 classes for the whole university with nearly 7,000 academic students and 250 faculty members. Therefore, this kind of work is now really time consuming, and complicated. Due to lack of ICT support, we have to use more paperwork but limited Word and Excel on the scheduling; therefore, the students have to come to the campus every term to check the courses that we offer and post on the bulletin boards, and then the students have to register their preferred courses. Likewise, the teachers have to come to the campus to receive their class assignment. As usual, at the very beginning of each new term, the APO is overwhelmingly crowded because most students and teachers come to the campus during that period—the only way they can do their work respectively.
2. Objectives :The objective of this project is to create an ICT approach which can help increase efficiency in a procedure of preparing the academic scheduling. In other words, it is intended to minimize paperwork, save more time, increase the accurate and consistent data, and improve communication with the faculty members, students, and relevant administrators.
3. Stakeholders :
This project involves four target groups namely the Office of Human Resources and Administration, the Academic Program Office staff, faculty members, the students, and the Enrollment Office staff. During the development of this project, we will work closely with them in order to identify the problems and needs, and create approaches.

5. Expected results:
After this project has been successfully designed and developed, it is expected to help with our academic schedule work in several parts .First, it can reduce much paperwork and take us less time to complete the scheduling—leading to more accuracy and efficiency for the schedule preparation. Second, the project will help the teachers to get their class assignment faster when there are some changes or updates on their class assignment. Third, the students who wish to see what courses offered in each term and to enroll in the courses will not necessarily come to the campus to do so because they can access to the academic scheduling on the PUC web portal and receive academic scheduling information by email. Finally, the communication among the target group of people will come faster and more convenient.
