1. Background of the project

Teaching and learning with ICT refers to the use of ICT gadgets such as smart phones, computers, projectors, etc as pedagogical tools to enhance the understanding of the learning process which stimulates motivation, involvement and curiosity of the learners. ICT is an important and empowering tool that can support teachers during the teaching and learning process.

Unlike the past when teaching and learning was dominated by the use of chalk and chalk board, today the use of ICT in education has changed practices. Such practices include but not limited to collaborative learning, blended learning, E-learning etc. in this project I will focus on Blended learning.

Blended learning can be referred to as the hybrid of traditional face-to-face and online learning. It is an integrated approach that includes multiple modes of instruction which positively impact on students’ learning. Through the modes of learning in this approach, it will increase the learner’s flexibility and access in learning and it extends the range of learning opportunities hence caters for multiple intelligence among the learners. Nevertheless, blended learning can be used with a range of resources from the web 2.0 for example blogs, wikis, audio, video and other social media to support the online learning.

The use of blended learning requires a teacher to be well grounded with knowledge and skills for effective implementation. The advantage at our college is that we have the computers and the internet services. However the challenge is that most tutors do not have adequate skills and knowledge on how to effectively implement blended learning. This therefore has prompted me to apply for this change project.
