Just testing. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 02:35, 13 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi hypnosis page! I did a presentation on hyponsis for pain management last semester in psychopathology, and I was fascinated by its uses in not just pain management but in childbirth. Maybe that could be a good section as it helps motivate women to give birth without drugs and to mange the experience. Or maybe just on pain management, its pretty fascinating stuff. Good luck. Hey Andrew, I came across that info on the hypnotic lap-band info that I mentioned the other day. It's called: Hypnotic Lap Band- Reprogram your mind for success with Mark Stephens. I have the "Fast action success manual" in my hands and it goes through how it works and what you do, including the "think slim success verse" that you tell yourself every day.... if that's of any help to you?! Let me know and I can bring it in to show you. I'm sure you've got a million things to cover already! CaitlinU3067255 23:45, 23 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is looking really good. The only thing I'd suggest is maybe finding some literature about the impact susceptibility has on the effectiveness of the hypnosis. Otherwise I think you've done a really good job of covering the topic. Danielle.d 04:45, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, it's looking great. Here’s a great article about Hypnosis and NLP that might be useful to this chapter… http://www.neuro-vision.us/Products/ExerciseMotivationHypnosisCD.htm. Looks like you're kicking goals. U3067255 05:13, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks all... appreciate the comments. Good luck with your chapters. Have a great weekend U895075 10:42, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the feedback on my mindfulness page.... Most helpful. The stage hypnosis aspect of this topic is most intriguing. As far as stage hypnotism goes, you can’t go past Derren Brown. For information and helpful links visit http://derrenbrown.co.uk/. He has some terrific book sout includoing “confessions of a conjuror”… a great read that dispels many of the myths about stage hypnosis. I'm not going to look at you- just so you know... Wow your progress is impressive, you've even completed the multimedia already! You must have had a lot of intrinsic motivation in this topic :) It reads very well too.
-- I would love to see some kind of self-test to see how susceptible I would be to hypnosis (I suspect I would be fairly susceptible..) Not sure about copyright problems though, unless the questions were adapted and cited. All the best and thanks for your feedback --Jaybay 09:53, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via Moodle, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this is a succint, focused chapter that examines the theory and research about use of hypnosis to enhance motivation. It is commendable for offering a balanced critique. Accompanying images are useful features. Little to no interwiki links are provided. No examples are provided. No self-help suggestions are made. The chapter is well-written.

Theory[edit source]

  1. The "What is hypnosis?" sections provides a readable, interesting, and succint and comprehensive overview of the historical theoretical thinking about hypnosis.
  2. An example of a hypnosis session could be useful early on the chapter to help ensure the reader has a picture of what hypnosis might be like phenomologically and behaviourally. e.g., "The astonishing responses that highly suggestible subjects make..." - some examples? What about with regard to self-help - how have people been helped via hypnosis?
  3. A section about self-hypnosis would be useful for a self-help book.

Research[edit source]

  1. Research is well described and covered. Mention of theory is well-supported by accompanying research, with a critical perspective clearly evident.

Written expression[edit source]

  1. Written expression
    1. The chapter could have benefited from a more developed Introduction or Overview, with clear focus questions relating to the self-help book theme and motivation or emotion.
  2. Learning features
    1. Wiki-links: Here's an example of how to add inter-wiki links [1]
    2. Images: The chapter is well-supported by relevant/meaningful images. Images have minimalistic captions.
  3. Spelling, grammar and proofreading
    1. Generally, this aspect was excellent.
    2. Use Australian spelling e.g., mesmerize → mesmerise
    3. Note use of comma instead of semi-colon for lists [2]
  4. APA style
    1. APA style now refers to participants rather than subjects
    2. In-text citations were very good.
    3. Reference list is in reasonably good APA style. Here's some examples of more making the APA style more complete - [3]
