Comments[edit source]

Heya,

Just doing some research and I thought this might be useful to your chapter - particularly the theories on anxiety http://peer.ccsd.cnrs.fr/docs/00/54/06/53/PDF/PEER_stage2_10.1016%252Fj.jesp.2007.01.005.pdf Good luck! Claremw 06:16, 20 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Heya, Thanks for your comment on my 'motivation to overeat page'. I would be happy to link our two chapters together. I think they may end up being pretty complimentary. Cheers Claremw 05:40, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I was reading through your page and it seems really good so far. Am looking forward to seeing the quiz develop. Nutrition is an interest of mine so it's really interesting reading your page. I was wondering though have you thought about chocolate and how we often turn to chocolate when we are sad or depressed does it elevate our mood? and is it a long term fix or something that just gives us a rush at the time? Also about foods that have endorphins in them and how this can affect our emotions? Do they really make us happy? Hopefully these are good things for you to consider. Good luck with the assignment and am looking forward to seeing the end product.Rednoodles 02:58, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, as someone who has struggled with 'comfort eating' I can really relate to what you have written so far. I'd love to see a quiz which tests "What sort of eater are you ie. comfort, emotional, stress etc". Maybe a couple of pics to emphasise the emotion involved in eating problems would also enhance the text. So far, looks great, well ordered and very interesting.Crazydaisy 03:26, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Your chapter is looking great so far. You've covered a wealth of infomation in a clear and consice manner. The picutres you've selected also add interest to the page. Can't wait for the quiz to be put up though! Regards, U3033746 02:04, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall comments
    1. This is a solid, basic chapter on eating behaviour and makes effective use of images and multimedia throughout. More words could be dedicated to theory, research and self-help strategies, as the majority of the word count appears to be in the quiz.

Theory[edit source]

  1. Theory comments
    1. Good discussion around some key theories, including restraint release.
    2. I’m not sure what is being established in distinguishing binge eating and stress responses? Binge eating often occurs through stress and emotional eating.
    3. Perhaps re-phrasing would help clarify the sentence: “Psychometric theory suggests that when stress increases, appetite decreases”. Psychometrics simply refers to psychological measurement; it is not a theory specific to eating and stress.

Research[edit source]

  1. Research comments
    1. Research is somewhat limited.
    2. The quiz providing self-assessment of eating behaviour is helpful, but the chapter stops short of providing concrete strategies for self-help, such as the alternative of physical activity to emotional eating and dieting.

Written expression[edit source]

  1. Written expression comments
    1. Images and multimedia were well-utilised throughout the chapter, although captions would be helpful.
    2. Some punctuation and word tense errors.
    3. References could better conform with APA style. Check in-text citations. An article cited in-text several times is not included in the reference list ( i.e., Jones et al, 2008).
    4. Try to avoid contractions in formal writing.

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this presentation provides a useful accompaniment to the chapter and communicates key points about emotion and overeating. Well done.

Structure and content[edit source]

  1. The presentation is well organised.
  2. Content is well-selected.
  3. It is good that the presentation refers to the chapter, although perhaps too much towards the end (e.g., quiz - however, this is good in providing a practical action). Ideally, this presentation can also stand-alone as a summary of the literature and key messages.

Communication[edit source]

  1. Communication via pictures and text via slides with narrated audio worked well overall.
  2. Pacing of audio is very good.
  3. Intonation is good.

Production quality[edit source]

  1. Picture and sound were good.
  2. URLs for the images were too small to read.
  3. Thanks for licensing under a creative commons license.
  4. Provide a link back to the chapter?
