Comments[edit source]

Hi, seems like you have made a good start here and I look forward to reading more on your topic. Jessica.h 07:53, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, This is such a big topic these days. It's all over T.V and in the printed press. There seems to be such a broad amount of diets available, so much I find it all a bit confusing. I'm looking forward to your finished chapter! Goodluck :) Jemmasanderson 00:06, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Heya! Your chapter is looking pretty pretty interesting so far. I think we will have alot of common themes, particularly relating to the fact that restricting food intake causes people to actually gain weight and that emotion has a lot to do with failing in a diet. Would you be happy to link our chapters together? http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Motivation_and_emotion/Book/Overeating Cheers Claremw 06:13, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Subheadings

Great read flows well. Not sure if you want to keep your subheadings breif so its easier to follow? Miz.mira 06:13, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Draft comments[edit source]

I've had a quick look at your draft. Some comments:

  1. There is a lovely balance between theory/research and practical self-help focus - this is excellent. So, in further drafting I would simply continue to improve/refine what you have, plus address APA of references and check the edit history - I made some 'wikifications' and left some notes e.g., in the External links section

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall comments
    1. This chapter provides some great self-help advice based on a firm foundation of research and theory.

Theory[edit source]

  1. Theory comments
    1. Nice to see some intraorganismic mechanisms and discussion of emotional eating. More discussion could be devoted to extraorganismic mechanisms, and the glucostatic and lipostatic hypotheses.
    2. As this topic is mostly about the role of emotion in eating, the definition of emotion could be expanded to include components as defined in the textbook, short-lived subjective-physiological-functional-expressive phenomena.

Research[edit source]

  1. Research comments
    1. Keeping a food journal, and changing the environment to avoid eating cues, regulating emotion through other means (e.g., exercise) are great suggestions and on track with the self-help focus of the topic.
    2. Some statements need clarification: “The key is to avoid making bad choices so that emotional eating does not become the only strategy for dealing with emotions.”
    3. Need more citations to back up statements. Some assertions require further explanation: What are the ‘psychological reasons’ for difficulties experienced in subsequent diets? Perhaps explain why dieting and being hungry go together through changing leptin and ghrelin levels.
    4. Interesting finding that choice of food type is related to mood/emotion.

Written expression[edit source]

  1. Written expression comments
    1. Some incorrect word usage/spelling (e.g., extreme extend->extent; con- cerned, achiev- ing)
    2. Requires further proofreading (e.g., “see the big picture and reaching (->reach) their personal goals”, “make a plan diet plan”).
    3. Great use of a quiz and images as learning features.
    4. Try to avoid prepositions as the end of sentences (e.g., into, of).
    5. In main text, eg., should be spelt out in full.
    6. Avoid contractions in formal APA style (e.g., doesn't, you've, there's, it’s).
    7. Typographical errors, some sentences lack full stops, others have too many (“strugglesMessage”).
    8. Numbers at the beginning of sentences should be expressed in words.
    9. The reference list is not in APA style.

  2. More images could be used

Production quality[edit source]

  1. Audio quality is excellent
  2. Transition between slide 2 and 3? (had to manually click through) - seemed also on Slide 4 - bullet-points came up without audio? (Seemed to be missing some recorded audio)
  3. Title text was difficult to read
  4. References difficult to read
