Research articles[edit source]

Hi there, good start on your textbook chapter, I found an interesting research article that may be useful it is titled Role of tempo entrainment in psychophysiological differentiation of happy and sad music by (Khalfa, Roy, Rainville, Dalla Bella & Peretz, 2008). Hope this helps with research for your book chapter :) --NHP96 (discusscontribs) 01:36, 21 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Additionally, I also found this article on the effects of sad music with the hormone prolactin, the research article is titled: Why is sad music pleasurable? A possible role for prolactin, hope this helps with research! --NHP96 (discusscontribs) 01:50, 21 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hey, here's an article about the links between music, crying, emotions, and personality "When Music Makes You Cry" --u3122707 (discusscontribs) 22:30, 30 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Heading casing[edit source]

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Topic development review and feedback

The topic development has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Topic development marks will be available later via Moodle. Keep an eye on Announcements. Note that marks are based on what was available before the due date, whereas the comments may also be based on all material available at time of providing this feedback.

Title, sub-title, TOC[edit source]

  1. Not provided
  2. Template added

User page[edit source]

  1. Created
  2. Used effectively

Social contribution[edit source]

  1. None logged on user page

Section headings[edit source]

  1. 3-level heading structure indicates some good familiarity with the topic
  2. I suggest avoiding a section labelled by a particular research study. Having said this, it is good to see the emphasis on both theory and research. The strongest chapters tend to integrate discussion of theory, research, and examples with meaningful overarching headings.
  3. See earlier comment about heading casing
  4. A section should contain either 0 or 2+ sub-sections - avoid having sections which contain 1 sub-section.
  5. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an overview paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.
  6. Make sure to avoid providing too much background/generic material. Instead briefly summarise background concepts and provide wiki links to further information. Then focus most of the content on directly answering the core question posed by the sub-title of chapter.

Key points[edit source]

  1. Some key points provided for some sections - needs further development
  2. Good to see an emphasis on examples
  3. Include in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles.

Image[edit source]

  1. One image included
  2. Consider increasing image size from default
  3. Provide an APA style figure captions which connects the image more strongly to key points being made in the text

References[edit source]

  1. OK. For APA style, check and correct capitalisation, use italics, use the full journal name, and use the new recommended format for dois - http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2014/07/how-to-use-the-new-doi-format-in-apa-style.html

Resources[edit source]

  1. See also
    1. Internal link added as an external link - see the second link as an example of how to do internal links
  2. External links
    1. Rename the link, include the source or author in brackets after the link

Chapter review and feedback[edit source]

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via Moodle, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this is a very good chapter - it tackles the topic and uses theory and research to provide an integrated answers. Perhaps more emphasis could be places on providing take-home messages - e.g., when/how is it a good idea to listen to sad music? When might it be problematic?

Theory[edit source]

  1. Theories were well described and explained.
  2. Some examples are provided, but perhaps consider adding more.
  3. Here's one of my favourite "sad" songs - Johnny Cash - Hurt - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt1Pwfnh5pc

Research[edit source]

  1. Research is reasonably well covered and integrated.
  2. When describing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.

Written expression[edit source]

  1. Written expression
    1. The chapter is well written.
  2. Layout
    1. See earlier comments about heading casing
    2. Some tidying up of the heading structure has been done, but there are some sections which still require an introductory paragraph before heading into sub-sections.
    3. Background colour for The Smith's feature box is probably too dark.
  3. Learning features
    1. Adding interwiki links would make the text more interactive.
    2. There could be greater integration with the previous chapter about music and emotion.
  4. APA style
    1. Use APA style for Figure and Table captions
    2. Numbers under 10 should be written in words (e.g., five); numbers 10 and over should be written in numbers (e.g., 10)
    3. References are not in full APA style e.g.
      1. Add spaces between author initials
      2. Add italics
      3. Provide full journal title
      4. dois should be hyperlinks
      5. etc.

Multimedia feedback

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via the unit's Moodle site. Written feedback is provided below, plus see the general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall[edit source]

  1. Overall, this is a basic, but sufficient presentation.

Structure and content[edit source]

  1. Narrate the Title and Sub-title, to help the viewer understanding the focus and goal of the presentation.
  2. Add and narrate an Overview slide, to help orientate the viewer about what will be covered.
  3. What is the effect of sad music on emotion? (Emphasis seems to be more on theory about why we listen to sad music rather than research about the effect. Material about oxytocin is helpful.).
  4. Consider using more examples? (e.g., example music?)
  5. The presentation could be strengthened by adding a Conclusion slide with practical, take-home messages.

Communication[edit source]

  1. Some of the small font text was difficult to read.
  2. The presentation is well narrated.

Production quality[edit source]

  1. The presentation is over the maximum time limit.
  2. Audio and video recording quality is good.
  3. Which license? Description says CC, but meta-data says Standard Youtube.
