About me[edit | edit source]

Hi, my names Tara...

Student life:[edit | edit source]

I am a Psychology student at the University of Canberra. I am studying in my 3rd-year but will likely graduate at the end of my 4th year as a student. I have been studying part-time for this 3-year undergraduate bachelors degree, hence the extra year of study.

Athlete life:[edit | edit source]

I train full-time at the Australian Institute of Sport for Volleyball as a part of the Australian Volleyball Academy. I also compete with the Volleyroos (Australian Women's Team) internationally with 2020 being my second year on the team. Our last international tournament was Olympic Qualifiers in Thailand, January 2020 where we finished 5th within Asia, and unfortunately, did not quality for the 2020(1) Olympic Games.

Working life:[edit | edit source]

I also manage to fit in working 3-jobs part-time/casually. I coach Volleyball in schools around Canberra with Volleyball ACT, am a personal assistant/receptionist at The Smart Centre Massage Therapy and have recently began my role as an Educator at Lululemon.

Hobbies:[edit | edit source]

My hobbies include:

  • Travelling to Adelaide (my home town, where my family are located)
  • Heading down to the beach (I used to live beach side and always miss the beach being in Canberra)
  • Playing tennis with friends and family (I played for 10-years before volleyball)
  • Cooking (I love finding healthy alternatives to cheat food)

My book chapter[edit | edit source]

I am working on the Equanimity book chapter, focussing on how to cultivate equanimity for this semesters Motivation and Emotion class at the University of Canberra.

Social Contributions[edit | edit source]

  1. 12:50pm, 24th August 2020: Added article summarising symptoms, cause and consequences of dental fear. This user hadn't started editing their template yet, hopefully this article will provide a great overview of the topic and help them begin their chapter.
  2. 12:47pm, 24th August 2020: Added Ted-Talk video link on 'Exploring the mind of a killer'. This user hadn't started editing their template yet, I am hoping this Ted-Talk will help them grasp the idea of a 'killers mind' before diving into the difference between children and adults (suggested in feedback section).
  3. 1:03pm, 24th August 2020: Suggested my book chapter 'Equanimity' as a source of information for 'Mindfulness and creativity' book chapter. As mindfulness is a major contributing factor to cultivating equanimity, this user may find it interesting to look into the connection. As well as the history, 'how to's' and religion/philosophical questions raised in my topic development.
  4. 1:20pm, 24th August 2020: Added Ted-Talk video link on 'Your brain is better on music'. This user hadn't started editing their template yet, so I hope this video inspired them to get going and helped them see one side of the topic, being that music is super beneficial!
  5. @taramaland tweeted "#emot20 Found this Ted-Talk on "The puzzle of motivation" https://www.ted.com/talks/dan_pink_the_puzzle_of_motivation Give it a watch! I found it quite interesting and eye opening by delving deep into one of the major topics of this semester!"
  6. 9:38pm, 16th October 2020: Added article for suggested further research around climate change denial. This user hasn't expanded a lot from their topic development so I feel this article may help expand their knowledge a bit.
  7. 9:55pm, 16th October 2020: Added article for suggested further research and interest around conspiracy theories involving Covid. I thought this would be interesting as it is relevant to the current time period and would advance their knowledge around the topic.
  8. 10:00pm, 16th October 2020: Suggested further research/book reading of Andre Agassi. I have read his book previously and found it had great insight into the role of feedback in someone who developed their mental game in high level sport over many years. It would provide great extra information for this user to see the theory spoken about in their chapter already in the context of a high performance athlete.
  9. 10:09pm, 16th October 2020: Shared a Ted-talk video relevant to the chapter, for further information and interest. I felt this user was almost done with their chapter, but may appreciate the contribution anyway.
  10. 10:15pm, 16th October 2020: Suggested the inclusion of a few case studies. I felt this could really draw the chapter information together, and allow for readers to relate more closely to ideas and theory.
  11. 10:21pm, 16th October 2020: Shared the idea of adding images into the page. It would be great to see what this user would be able to find that would relate to sorrow in terms of imagery.
  12. 10:28pm, 16th October 2020: Edited the overview of 'implicit motives'. Including grammatical errors, sentence structure and suggestion for referencing changes.
  13. 10:34pm, 16th October 2020: Shared three relevant articles. It looks like this user hasn't edited their book chapter a lot, so I found 3 articles which I hope will help them with some theories behind the topic of interest and hopefully provides further relevant information to get their chapter going.
