  • Tree location: A bit far from my house
  • Tree type: Deciduous
  • Leaf: Simple
  • Leaf margin: Serrated
  • Leaf arrangement on branch: Alternate
  • Habitat: Best on moist, rich bottomlands--but also found on drier, upland soils
  • Virginia Range: All over Virginia
  • Fruit: Small seed secured by a papery, wafer-like covering; 3/4 - 1 inch across; smooth; ripening in spring.
