[edit | edit source]What is involved in Aerospace Structures (AS)?
AS, analysis of structural composition in airplanes, is governed by partial differential equations (PDEs), which can be solved using the finite element method (FEM). The FEM is used widely in all fields of engineering, applied math, and geologic exploration.
Several concepts will be emphasized in this course:
- Understanding of mechanics
- Ability to formulate equations
- Ability to judge the correctness of a solution (via FEM), and to
- Avoid old ad hoc methods of structural analysis.
