Course Objectives

  • Primary Objectives- By the next class period students will be able to:
    • Explain the reason why non-congruent triangles with the same length of base and height have the same area
    • Explain the reason why all the third vertices of triangles with a fixed base form lines parallel to the fixed side
  • Sub Objectives- The objectives will require that students be able to:
    • Understand the fundamental concept of area of triangle as counting the number of square units enclosed by the triangle
    • Apply transformation on the triangle to be measured and relate it to a rectangle so that counting the number of square units is feasible
  • Difficulties- Students may have difficulty:
    • In connecting their understanding of finding the area of triangle without giving the length and height of that triangle so that they can use the formula directly
    • In observing the common characteristics of all the triangles with a fixed base and the relation to the third vertices of triangles on a parallel line to the fixed side
