The Bloomsbury edition has a whole page (p180) devoted to a brief Martin Luther quote:

'Qui non intelligit res, non potest ex verbis sensum elicere' - he who does not understand the things cannot draw sense from the words

I felt that this nicely summed up how I felt a lot of reading had gone to this point in the book. However, I believe it is vital to read at the limits of, and beyond, one's comprehension if reading is to be productive.
