Topic talk:Ring theory

Hello, this seems to be a copy from Wikipedia's article w:Algebra (ring theory). Why don't we make a learning experiment now with this and try to rephrase this in our own words or use Wikipedia's article to generate information or a better learning experience on another level ?

"A duplication of other Wikimedia projects. While Wikiversity complements other Wikimedia projects, it will not simply duplicate their content. So, if you want to read about a topic, you may be better off visiting, say, Wikipedia or Wikibooks, but if you want to learn about this topic, you can do so at Wikiversity. Learning materials will be created and used on Wikiversity, but materials on other projects may also be used as learning materials themselves or even places to consolidate this learning, i.e. writing an article, manual etc based on what you've learned. There may be some overlapping, but each project will maintain its own focus."

Is their a way to prevent Duplications of already existing articles, like when you attempt to import an article which is already on the site gets disabled with a warning message, I've noticed such Duplications of pages on this site but wondered if the system would prevent it - like on Meta Spam list, it blocks address deemed unacceptable or will this put strain on the servers. What I mean of Duplications, is articles which already exists on various Wikimedia sites. DarkMage 20:54, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know of such a system, but I am sure it could be programmed since it is "just" looking for the pasted text in the databases of the Wikimedia projects. Perhaps there is an extension already out there - you could have a look.
The question is: do we want this ? On first point it seems not desired, because a solely duplication is just a waste (of space, of time of the pasting person, ...). But one could also see it as a new birth. I am sure with time the learning resource here gets extended and takes another life than on WP. It is surely interesting how the learning resource develops here over time and then one could compare with the article on WP. One could e.g. analyze the causes for the difference, ... Perhaps it is just the attempt of someone new to Wikiversity to start her learning activities ? Who knows. Let's just wait. ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 21:04, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
