From Wikiversity
GNOME on Fedora 7

In this lesson, we will explore the GNOME Desktop, discuss our first impressions and gain some practical skills for navigating our desktop, accomplishing common tasks and basic customisation/personalisation.

Read the chapter: Main Desktop of the Using GNOME wikibook.

When GNOME starts, the first thing to do is log in.

Now, we can explore the desktop.

Much like the Windows "Start" button, the Applications button in the top left of the menu bar is used to launch applications. They are organized by usage, such as "Network" or "Office" applications. You can install more applications through your distribution's package manager.
