Template:Not a typo/doc

From Wikiversity
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This template can be used to encapsulate deliberate or apparent typos to save them from correction by bots and automated wiki-editors. Its purpose is to indicate passages that might appear incorrect to an automated tool, but which are actually correct, and it does not modify its parameters in any way.

Any of three names can be used:

  1. {{Not a typo}} for items that are actually correct; for example, "he put a little english on the ball", in which "english" is not capitalised.
  2. {{Typo}} for items that are deliberately incorrect, either because we are illustrating a point, or because it is a direct quote (it is better to use {{sic}} for in quotations)
  3. {{Proper name}} for names, such as Flouride (not fluoride) or Pharoah (not pharaoh).

Also be aware of:

  1. {{Lang}} for other-language text.
  2. {{Sic}}, which can be used to mark up text, thus [sic], or invisibly.
