Template:BridgeHandInline/doc
This is a documentation subpage for Template:BridgeHandInline. It may contain usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
Purpose
[edit source]This template generates an inline text string for a single hand in contract bridge.
Usage
[edit source]The template receives 4 sets of data for the card rank holdings (A, K, Q, etc.) in each of the suits in the order of: spades, hearts, diamonds, clubs. When using the blank template sample from below, replace each emdash (—) with the card ranks of each suit. Use an emdash to show a void.
Example
[edit source]{{BridgeHandInline|J3|J874|A10765|Q3}}
which results in:
♠ J3 ♥ J874 ♦ A10765 ♣ Q3
Blank template
[edit source]Copy, paste and complete the following blank template into your article by replacing the emdashes with the ranks of each suit in the order of spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs; leave an emdash to show a void.
{{BridgeHandInline|—|—|—|—}}
which renders the following blank hand diagram: ♠ — ♥ — ♦ — ♣ —
Spacing and surrounding text
[edit source]1. The diagram is intended to be used inline with normal text and usually contains no additional spacing between the ranks of cards. The addition of spacing between the ranks of cards results in the following:
- ♠ AK5 ♥ 56 ♦ J986 ♣ Q753 - with no spacing
- ♠ A K 5 ♥ 5 6 ♦ J 9 8 6 ♣ Q 7 5 3 - with hair spacing (

) - ♠ A K 5 ♥ 5 6 ♦ J 9 8 6 ♣ Q 7 5 3 - with thin spacing (

) - ♠ A K 5 ♥ 5 6 ♦ J 9 8 6 ♣ Q 7 5 3 - with normal non-breaking spacing (
)
2. The template has 'no-wrap' parameters which prevents mid-suit line-breaks and keeps at least two suits on the same line.
