"Creative Commons is the right license" <-- I think this needs to specify the exact license (Creative Commons CC-BY-SA).
"We already have millions of contributions under GFDL and it's too late to change now" <-- I do not think this is relevant. The switch will only happen if the licenses are made compatible so that old GFDL wiki content can be migrated to Creative Commons CC-BY-SA.
