Objectives[edit source]

At the completion of this topic, you should be beginning to understand:

a) how it is nearly always impossible to salvage a TV program if you simply don’t have good material in the first instance;

b) that by developing an understanding of the editing process, your filming and planning (pre-production) will be more carefully executed and so provide far better footage for the final edit; and

c) that by definition, editing is cutting back, removing and it is also telling a story with the pictures and sound; it is making the material work, giving a new reality and direction with the best sequence of dramatic elements.
