Talk:The origins of philosophy

Here is the plan for the origins of philosophy: Firstly, there will be a relatively short introduction (Ancient Greece) which deals with the historical situation of Greece at the time of the birth of philosophy, and how this situation contributed to a radical criticism of traditional wisdom and values. This section is not yet finished. The section on myth will deal with how philosophical thought was conditioned by the traditional mythical conceptions. Next, I would like to write a section on the word "logos", as the origins of philosophy have been traditionally described as the transition from mythos to logos.

Anyone willing to contribute to this topic should understand the first couple of chapters in Cornford's From Religion to Philosophy (F. M. Cornford. From Religion to Philosophy. A Study in the Origins of Western Speculation. Princeton University Press, 1991.) or The Presocratic Philosophers (by G. S. Kirk, J. E. Raven, M. Schofield).

Rewrite/restart of project[edit source]

I will be beginning a major rewrite of this project, probably moving it to an actual title page of 'History of Western Philosophy'. Feel free to discuss possible collaborations on this project. --Nyotii 11:18, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
