What about
[edit source]- w:en:Diplomacy (game) - which is a boardgame that teaches all about breaking and making of treaties
- w:en:Rome:_Total_War, - which is very well researched roman history
- w:en:Civilisation_(series) - which is one of many resource management/battle games
It seems to me like kingmaker is quite outdated and whilst still sort of interesting for the historic references - you might do much better these days - even if you are only looking at board games.
