French mathematician since 1999, currently Permanent Professor at \htmladdnormallink{IHES}{http://planetphysics.us/encyclopedia/IHES.html}, who received the \htmladdnormallink{fields}{http://planetphysics.us/encyclopedia/CosmologicalConstant2.html} Medal in 1995 and the Crafoord Proze in 2008.

His PhD is from the University of Bonn in March 1992.
