In my interview with Pauline Cox, she noted that two laneways names had changed: Lampens Lane used to be Lampdens and Kingswell changed to Kingwells to reflect historical accuracy. I was thinking that both of these might be interesting to include, but also helpful when creating keyword searches.--Acreepschlag (discusscontribs) 18:09, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I just read a page in The Newfoundland Quarterly" vol 036, no 2, pg. 13 (on the DAI) which says: "Ward’s Lane, formerly Kingswell Lane." Interesting that there were many names. --Ewokka (discusscontribs) 19:26, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not entirely sure where to put this, but here is an ethnographic memory about Lilly's Lane: In an interview about growing up in Harbour Grace, Pauline Cox recalled picking raspberries in Lilly's Lane when she was younger:

"About halfway down Lillys lane, on Water street behind the A. L. Collis building, there used to be these beautiful raspberry bushes. And I remember as a kid, I would just climb the fence in my backyard and go over to Lillys lane and go and pick raspberries. And I just have this fond, fond memory of picking all these berries and bringing them home, and — you know, washing them, and putting them in a bowl and sort of mashing them up with a little sprinkle of sugar on top. When I think back, it’s probably looking through rose-coloured glasses, because they just seemed to be the best or the sweetest berries. [Laughs.] And, I guess that’s why raspberries are still my favourite berries of all." --Acreepschlag (discusscontribs) 19:02, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is this the kind of thing that we could put in the Ethnographic observations section? Or maybe it would be better placed in the Lilly's Lane section? Unsure. Acreepschlag (discusscontribs) 19:03, 25 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In The Newfoundland Quarterly 036.2, it says "Guinea Pig Lane and Martin's Lane are very old paths leading North from Water Street." Are these still around? Guinea Pig Lane sounds so friendly and small.

This same publication has some tidbits about Doctor's Lane, Kerry Lane, and Bennett's Lane. It also names other lanes which are not yet part of our project, I think.

Bennett's Lane Cemetery:

The skull-and-crossbones story is a good example of a local legend, and should be framed as such. I think it is good to include, as long as there is some context. In general, if you have a quote from a local person, it is good to support/debunk it with outside sources, e.g. https://www.saltwire.com/atlantic-canada/federal-election/harbour-graces-grave-mystery-46794/

There's a Registered Heritage Structure in Bristol's Hope called the Mosquito School House, which was built by "A local minister by the name of Kingwell [...] between 1818 and 1828." I think this might be the same Kingwell that Kingwell lane is named for, since he arrived around 1825-8, but I'm not sure... is this something I should add somewhere? https://www.heritage.nf.ca/articles/society/mosquito-school-house.php ----Ewokka (discusscontribs) 01:22, 10 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

formatting[edit source]

Hey guys! I'm realizing that we have several sources that are repeated throughout the page but formatted differently; they could be consolidated into one source. I think we should pick one annotation format (I've been inconsistent in my own annotations!) and use it consistently. Any suggestions? Roshni624 (discusscontribs) 16:36, 13 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
