Chaucer used Middle English. The Old English period is usually quoted as ending at the time of the Norman Conquest. As such, I changed this on the main page. I really don't think that either Old or Middle English qualify as 'endangered languages', however, and would prefer them to be removed altogether.

This list is not very helpful. There are many other endangered languages, for example among natives of the Amazon rain forest and of the islands between Asia and Australia. Conversely, Middle English is a completely dead language in that nobody uses it for day-to-day communication, even if it is studied academically.--Collingwood (talk) 18:00, 16 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
