"Perform well"?

[edit source]

By what metric do we judge "performance" in this case? It seems to me that the merits of Sweden's policy lie chiefly in what it did not do. The question seems slightly leading. One might expect that there were more covid-19 related deaths yet at the same time there's a very good argument to be made that "lockdowns" and other such restrictions were on the whole unnecessary, being socially and economically harmful. It doesn't seem entirely honest to talk about covid-19 mortality as a raw covid-19-deaths number in the first place, considering that seniors with multiple comorbidities apparently account for most of it. Not to sound insensitive, but clearly it's relevant that the average victim is 75, obese, and suffering from COPD, rather than a healthy 20 year old.
