These two definitions don't really capture the difference between connection-oriented and connectionless service (or between circuit and packet networks). Try and read Tanenbaum pp. 57-58 and pp. 86-87. --Bansler (talk) 13:07, 17 September 2012 (UTC) This entry has been much improved. One small detail: The telephone network is connection-oriented, but that is not the case with the telecommunication network, which nowadays carries both phone conversations and data and consequently offers both connection-oriented and connectionless services. --Bansler (talk) 14:01, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
