"Swahili I" is a course in the Swahili Department. This course aims to give students a sense of elementary grammar and to build a substantial vocabulary through repetition, exercises, reading, and writing. It gives students an understanding of the noun class system and of the various affices that are so important to meanings of sentences. It also aims to start the study of culture by including chapters about things like sports played by the Waswahili (people who speak Swahili).
