Student Projects/Communication and Education
In today's competitive world, it is very important for a novice professional to be firmly grounded on foundations of sound education for his/her successful and harmonious living. It is rightly said that education is a life long process, where all the experiences, knowledge and wisdom that an individual acquires at different stages of one’s life through different channels (i.e., formally, informally and incidentally) have formative as well as additive effects on the personality of an individual.[1] The fact that, in each and every sphere of life, one's education plays very vital roles itself proves the need and importance of basic education for all people, irrespective of their gender, religion, cast, creed or race. This very thought is emphasized in the Constitution of India as well. The Constitution (86 Amendment) Act, 2002 inserted Article 21-A in the Constitution of India to provide free and compulsory education of all children in the age group of six to fourteen years as a Fundamental Right in such a manner as the State may, by law, determine.[2]
Adhering this, if the discussion is limited to the importance of communication in education, it is necessary to view communication in relation to education. Communication, to put it simply, is the ‘sharing’ of information between two or more individuals or within a group to reach a common understanding.[3]Even in an educational scenario this understanding of communication demands significance and hence need to be considered seriously. The effects that effective communication has on efficient teaching learning process are inevitable: -
- it increases the overall level of understanding of students as well as reforms the perspectives of teachers as communication clarifies concepts to a great extend
- it kindles the socializing skills of the student community and evokes a feeling of interdependence and brotherhood among them
- it urges the students to become autonomous learners and promotes self reliance, which is the ultimate aim of education
Therefore it is important that all stakeholders in education consider this seriously and selflessly contribute to its development.
