Printing with double stick tape

Hello and welcome

[edit | edit source]

If you are reading this, I assume you are either grading me, or trying to print with a piece of double side sticky tape to prevent the raft/base of the object from curling.

Prerequisites

[edit | edit source]

-The printer must function normally, and more specifically the build platform should be level.

-have time enough to watch the first two layers complete.

-The double sided tape must be laid down properly

The problem

[edit | edit source]

The print head will be too close to the new build platform covered with the sticky tape, and will result in a slightly messier product, or have the print head brush against the sticky, which slows down the printer, gets gunk on the head, and could ultimately jam the printer.

The solution

[edit | edit source]

I used tools to weigh down the build platform by about .05mm

Using the snips that usually reside next to the printer, I put the tool between the build platform and the base of the z axis support. This gave some weight, but I needed more, so I put tools on the platform I had created with the snips. Add and remove tools as needed to get the initial height of the first layer.

Once the first layer is printed, it is not important to keep the weight on, and you should slowly remove each piece. If you leave the tools in there on a tall build, they may bump into the casing of the replicator 2 and cause much larger problems.

If you ask nicely, a Professor would more than likely be happy to get a weight set out of the back for you to use instead of tools.
