Students learn how to introduce themselves, ask for a partner's name and give their own name in English. |
Chinese whispers
[edit | edit source](Also known as Telephone) Get students to line up in two lines then whisper a different sentence or a word to the two students at the front of the line. They relay the whisper and the last student in the line comes forward then either act out the sentence (for example, “I can sing”) or pick out a picture card of that word. The first team to correctly relay the sentence and act out the sentence/pick out the card, wins.
Charades
[edit | edit source]Divide the class in teams. One student at a time acts out a word that you give him/her, and his/her team has to guess the word. You can make it harder by requiring them to use a full sentence, or make it correct only if they don't make a mistake. (e.g. "He is swimming.", or "She likes cats"). You can use this in some cases to help them form the habit of pronouncing the s.
Pictionary
[edit | edit source]Same game, but with students drawing on the board. Good if the class is shy, or reluctant.
Sentence Relay
[edit | edit source]Divide the class into teams. Put a set of words at one end of the room. One student from each team comes up at a time, and has to take a word card randomly, and make a correct sentence with that word before he/she can go back to the team. The first team to have all its members go wins.
You can make it more complicated by putting adjectives at one end of the room, and nouns at the other. Students have to take one of each and make an appropriate sentence. (e.g. "I like big fish")
